Peter Logan is a founding partner of Kaufman & Logan. He has substantial expertise in a wide range of commercial litigation. Much of his work over 30 years of practice has been on behalf of insurance companies and their insureds. Peter is focused on understanding his client's business goals and developing innovative solutions to achieve desired results. Creativity is the touchstone of his approach to problem-solving, whether in negotiation or litigation.
In addition to his wide-ranging insurance coverage practice, Peter has litigated disputes involving lending institutions, and represented a major agricultural products exporter. He also has significant experience in medical, hospital and engineering professional malpractice litigation. His background in state and federal courts across the country covers motion practice, discovery, arbitration, mediation, jury trials and appeals.
Peter has been the lead attorney in hundreds of matters dealing with a variety of coverage issues. His cases and results have included:
- Kaiser Cement (three matters, one published opinion)
- FB Wright (negotiated agreement and won arbitration under it)
- Travelers v. Hunt (equal protection on an insurance coverage issue; won summary judgment)
- San Carlos Sheet Metal Works (construction defect)
- Raneri & Long (roofing contractor defense and alleged fraud, arbitration result less than §998 offer)
- Greyhound (privilege waiver/surety bond);
- Thorpe (three separate matters; $200m at stake; won litigation and arbitration, judgment entered)
- Celotex (won forum non conveniens resulting in case removed from client domicile; upheld in published opinion)
- Altamarino v. Raisbeck (defense of medical malpractice case; excluded treating physician as expert; defense verdict at trial)
